Connect your bank with Plaid
Plaid is the secure connection service used by thousands of well-known apps to talk to banks. Instead of exporting statements by hand, you sign in to your bank once through Plaid’s secure window, and AccountFUN keeps your transactions up to date from then on — automatically.
Plaid connects with more than 12,000 banks and credit unions in the United States, so your bank is very likely covered. Your bank login details go straight from you to your bank through Plaid — they are never shared with AccountFUN.
Part 1 — Start the setup in AccountFUN
Section titled “Part 1 — Start the setup in AccountFUN”- Go to Bank Accounts and open the account you want to feed (for example, “Business Checking”).
- Click Setup Bank Feed.
- Pick United States, then find your bank in the list — you can search by name. Well-known banks like Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citi, and Capital One are listed directly.
- Don’t see your bank? Choose the Other banks card at the bottom — you’ll be able to search for any US bank in the next step.
Part 2 — Sign in to your bank through Plaid
Section titled “Part 2 — Sign in to your bank through Plaid”- Click Connect with Plaid.
- A secure window from Plaid opens. Search for your bank, then sign in with your usual online banking details.
- If your bank uses a verification code or approval in its mobile app, complete that step as you normally would when logging in.
This window belongs to Plaid — AccountFUN only learns which accounts you have and their transactions, never your password.
Some banks send you to their own website to approve access. Finish the bank’s steps and return to AccountFUN in the same browser, signed in to the same account and organization. Complete Bank Connection resumes the setup so you can finish choosing your accounts.
If the connection session is missing or expired, return to Bank Accounts and start Setup Bank Feed again. Do not switch organizations partway through the bank approval.
Part 3 — Choose where the transactions go
Section titled “Part 3 — Choose where the transactions go”After you sign in, Plaid shows the accounts it found at your bank (for example, Checking ••1234 and Savings ••5678). For each one, choose:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Create new account | AccountFUN creates a fresh bank account from your bank’s details. |
| Connect to existing | The feed feeds an account you already set up in AccountFUN. |
Click Connect and you’re done. AccountFUN confirms the connection and the account shows as connected to your bank.
After connecting
Section titled “After connecting”Transactions arrive automatically — there’s nothing to click. New transactions usually appear within a day of your bank posting them. (Spreadsheet feeds are similar but fetch on a schedule — a few times a day, plus a manual Fetch Bank Feed button.)
Fetched transactions appear as statement lines in the account’s Reconciliation tab, exactly like imported CSV lines. From there, the standard workflow applies: clear each line via Match, Find & Match, Create, or Transfer, until the badge reads Reconciled. See the Bank reconciliation guide for the full walkthrough, and bank rules to automate the repetitive coding.
Security and privacy
Section titled “Security and privacy”- Your bank password stays private. It’s entered in Plaid’s window and goes to your bank — never to AccountFUN.
- What AccountFUN receives: account names and types, account and routing numbers, and transactions. See our Privacy Policy for details, and Plaid’s privacy policy for how Plaid handles your information.
- You stay in control. You can disconnect a feed yourself at any time — see below.
Disconnecting a bank feed
Section titled “Disconnecting a bank feed”Changed banks, or just want to stop the automatic imports? Open the account’s Setup Bank Feed page and click Disconnect in the Plaid banner, then confirm in the pop-up.
Disconnecting stops future imports only — every transaction already imported stays in your books, so your records and reconciliations are untouched. If the same bank connection feeds other AccountFUN accounts, those keep syncing as normal. You can set the feed up again whenever you like.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”- Transactions stopped syncing — the most common cause is a password or security change at your bank. Open the account’s Setup Bank Feed page; if the connection needs attention, you’ll see a Reconnect option. Click it and sign in again through Plaid’s window.
- I signed in but got an error — some banks occasionally block new connections. Wait a little while and try Connect with Plaid again.
- My bank isn’t in the list — use the Other banks card, which opens Plaid’s full US bank search. If Plaid doesn’t cover your bank either, you can use a custom file or spreadsheet feed, or import a CSV from the Statements tab.
- Connected the wrong account — click Disconnect on the account’s Setup Bank Feed page, then set the feed up again and pick the right account in the mapping step. Already-imported lines stay where they are; if any landed in the wrong place, support can help you move them.
